Sustainability has become one of the pillars of business and a buzz word in pop culture. However, sustainability is a lot more than planting trees. To have a real conversation about sustainability, we not only need to talk all main pillars of sustainability: economic, social, and environmental. There are, of course, many different actors that play a part here. In sustainable development, we need to consider, for example, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by all the United Nation’s member States in 2015. This speaks loudly about how we must all contribute and how many nations are willing to play a crucial role in changing business as usual.
These SDGs did not come out of thin air. These goals were meticulously proposed considering the world’s situation, its statistics, figures, and the science behind them. That is why it is not surprising that so many countries signed up to change their policies and become sustainable in every way that matters. Despite the fact that these goals are quite overwhelming, they are necessary for our own survival. It doesn’t matter where you live, what your company does or how old you are. These SDGs will make or break our ability to continue inhabiting this planet, living and breathing, and sharing it with every other living being. However, governments cannot work alone. The whole State must be taken into account and we are a part of that, not only as citizens, but as businesses. We realize that companies have to start adding to every effort possible to achieve these goals as soon as possible and as well as possible. Monster Displays wants to lead this effort in our own way.
The inclusion of Monster Displays in the Inc. 5000 list of Fastest Growing Companies in America is evidence of the company’s economic sustainability. We are more than grateful for the road that has brought us here, filled with risky strategies and tremendous effort. Economic growth does not come easy, especially with fluctuating economies, recessions, and trying times. We believe we can always do better. We face adversity with bravery and good spirits. We believe in this great nation and in being part of the global community. That is why we understand that economic sustainability does not come alone. We have been fully aware of the conditions required to continue to grow and provide work for so many people.
People are the best part of companies, the quintessential part, the part without which companies cannot begin, let alone survive. A company’s staff is its lifeline and support, its reason and strength. That is why social sustainability is so important. If the people who work in a company are not happy, safe and taken care of, they are not productive. The numbers show that, science has studied it, and we have always kept that as a fundamental part of how we do business. Social sustainability is as important as economic sustainability because one cannot live without the other. We are our people. That goes for our customers as well.
Companies around the world tend to leave a fundamental part of sustainability behind: environmental sustainability. It’s easy to leave the environment in the back burner (pun intended). We don’t tend to realize how much we need the environment while we have running water, can afford to go on vacation, and have a backyard with a tree house. However, the environment is everything. There are no people without the environment because we completely depend on it. And without people, there are no businesses. Therefore, without environmental sustainability, there is no social sustainability without which there is no economic sustainability.
One of the most important aspects of the 17 SDGs is that they are integrated and have to be inevitably intertwined. At Monster we understand that. We already have the whole economic and social sustainability covered, and we are working hard to be even more environmentally sustainable. We are making strides in offering more sustainable products for your marketing needs. We are improving our business practices to minimize single-use materials. But we want to do something more radical. We want to offer you an option where your branding materials can be a source for good. A solution that upcycles refuse material, that cust emissions of carbon in half during production. This innovation is coming very soon. And you will be able to become part of the solution with us, to help us on this journey to full sustainability in every way possible.
Stay tuned, because all we have in One Planet…
